Ann Louise Leahy (Sister Mary St. Ann) was born on August 18, 1927, in Davenport, Iowa to George J. Leahy and Edna Litzrodt, both born in Davenport. On September 8, 1945, Ann Louise entered the Congregation of the Humility of Mary in Ottumwa, Iowa, where she professed vows on July 28, 1948.
In Iowa, Sister Ann received a BA in elementary education from Marycrest College and her masters in educational administration at Clark College in Dubuque. For over 40 years she taught at the Iowa Catholic schools of –St. Mary, Ottumwa; St. Mary, Marshalltown; St. Anthony, Des Moines; St. Vincent, Davenport; St. Mary, Albia; and Lourdes Memorial School, Bettendorf. She also taught at St. Pius X in Rock Island, Illinois and Sacred Heart in Glendive, Montana. She was principal in Iowa at St. Mary in Albia and Lourdes Memorial in Bettendorf and in Illinois at St. Pius X/ Jordan Primary. Prior to retirement in 2000 she served as a health aide at Davenport Holy Family and Coordinator for the CHM sisters at Bishop Drumm Retirement Center.
Sister Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Father Edward Leahy; and her sister, Sister Alice Marie Leahy. She is survived by her brother, George Leahy, and his wife, Maurita; her sister, Maryetta Masterson and her husband, Ed; as well as many nieces, nephews and the sisters and associates of her religious community.
