Funeral services for Mrs. Helen Vining Madison of Bastrop, Louisiana will be held 3:00 P.M. Friday, April 12, 2013 at Christ Episcopal Church in Bastrop. Officiating the service will be Reverend Edward Head. Interment will be at Christ Church Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop.

Helen was born March 17, 1935 in Choudrant, Louisiana and she passed away peacefully on April 9, 2013 at The Terrace in Bastrop following a long battle with Alzheimers. As her disease progressed she was cared for by the wonderful nurses and staff of the Arbor House Terrace and Premier Hospice.

Mrs. Madison was a member of Christ Episcopal Church of Bastrop where she and her late husband spent many years in active support of the church. She served the church in many roles including the Alter Guild, Memorial Chairwoman. She was also the first woman elected to the church vestry. Helen was a graduate of Choudrant High School and received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education from Louisiana Tech. She began her teaching career in Dubach, Louisiana. After retiring from teaching with Morehouse Parish Schools she worked for a time in her husband's law office.

Helen is preceded in death by her husband, James P. Madison and her parents, Clarence and Elva Vining; and her siblings, Clarence Eugene Vining, Jr., Roy Basil Vining, Malcolm Gerald Vining, Inman Jamar Vining, Mary Elizabeth Vining Parker, John Lewis Vining, Willie Earl Vining, and Kirby A. Vining.

She is survived by sister-in-law, Jackie Vining of Ruston and brothers-in-law, John Y. Madison of Houston, Texas and George F. Madison and his wife, Gayle of Monroe; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the Parish Hall of Christ Episcopal Church beginning at 2:00 P.M. until time for services on Friday, April 12th.
