MaryBelle Byrum Bass, 81, of the 300 block of Harris Landing Road, died on Sunday, January 1, 2006 in Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City. Mrs. Bass was born in Chowan County and was the daughter of the late Baker Frank and Ethel Dail Byrum. A homemaker, she was a member of Rocky Hock Baptist church, where she taught Sunday school for many years and was also active in its Anna Belle Coleman Circle. Other than her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Graham Pierce Bass, a son, Graham Byrum Bass, a sister, Sarah B. Casper, and brothers, Baker, Rufus, Carroll Wilbur, Edward Lee, Jarvis, and Raye Byrum. Surviving are two sons, G. Carroll Bass and wife, Frances of Edenton and Robert W. "Bob" Bass and wife, Mary Alice of Ayden; a sister, Lois B. Turner of Gatesville; eleven grandchildren, Neal Bass and wife, Felisa, Stephen Bass, Gregory Bass, Cindy Shumate and husband, Darrell, Rebecca Bass, Paula Rackley and husband, Steve, Trey Bass and wife, Alanna, Susan Lilly and husband, Michael, Wayne Bass and wife, Chastity, Shannon McLawhorn and husband, Richard and Shawn Cannon and husband, Chris; 10 great-grandchildren; and special sisters-in-law and brother-in-law. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, at 2 p.m. in Rocky Hock Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. James Horton with burial to follow in the Pierce Family Cemetery. Friends may join the family on Tuesday, from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, Edenton, and all other times at the residence of her son, Carroll Bass, 244 Harris Landing Road, Edenton.
