Carroll Wilber Byrum, 77, of Route 1, died Friday Sept. 5, 1997, in Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City.
Mr. Byrum was born in Chowan County. The son of the late Baker Frank and Mrs. Belle Dail Byrum, he was a retired farmer. He was a member and deacon of Middle Swamp Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mecie Eure Byrum; a son, W.C. ''Billy'' Byrum and his wife, Linda, of Sunbury; two sisters, Marybelle Bass of Edenton and Lois Turner of Gatesville; two brothers, Rufus Byrum of Suffolk, Ray Byrum of Reidsville, N.C.; and two grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Middle Swamp Baptist Church by the Rev. Russell Blanchard. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, in charge. Friends may join the family at the residence. Memorial contributions may be made to Middle Swamp Baptist Church or the Gates County Rescue Squad.
