MRS. H. B. COYLE, PIONEER RESIDENT BURIED Monday
Mrs. Henderson B. Coyle, 83, died at 8:30 a.m. Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L. G. Shipley, near Rowlett, thus ending the life of one of Garland's first pioneer residents. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the First Christian Church in Garland, of which she had been a member since 1879. The Rev. W. M. Mix, pastor of the church, officiated.
Burial was in the family plot of Mills Cemetery on Bankhead Highway, east of Garland. Land for this cemetery was given by her father, Edward Mills, who settled in the community long before the Civil War, and was a part of his headright.
Nancy Matilda Mills was the youngest and last survivor of twenty-four children including half-sisters and half-brothers. She was born Sept. 17, 1863, near Mills Cemetery. She was married to Henderson B. Coyle in Nov. 1878, who preceeded her in death ten years ago. They made their home at 913 Avenue E for about fifty years.
Since her husband's death she had made her home with her two daughters. For the past three weeks she was quite ill at the home of Mrs. Earl Harris, 7011 Clayton, Dallas, but improved enough by the end of last week to want to be brought to the home of Mrs. Shipley on Saturday, where she succumbed Sunday morning.
Besides her daughters, she is survived by five grandchildren three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Kenneth and Sam Davis, Clarence Gardner, Cliff Smith, Virgil Ramsey and Joy Richards.
