Mr. Armstrong was born in McMinn county, Tennessee, in the year 1841, where he resided till enlisting in the 5th Tennessee cavalry, in behalf of the cause of the south. For more than three years he shared the hardships and brooked the dangers of a soldier's life, and when the war was over found himself facing the desolation of his particular section of the old "Volunteer State." Undertaking again the affairs of life, he began the manufacture of saddles and harness, continuing the business and emigrating to Texas in 1869. In 1872, he showed his obedience to divine purposes by marrying Miss Julia McClary of Collin county, a most estimable lady, one worthy the love and care of the best of Tennesseeans.
There are but two children, Willie and Lizzie, both of whom are married: the former to Miss Lillie Taylor, the latter to C. C. Aldridge. Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong reside in Dallas, county, not far from Renner, where they own a valuable farm, and are otherwise well settled in a home. And besides this, and above all earthly consideration, they are exemplary citizens, being on the side of mortality and living uniform Christian lives.
May they always see a silver lining to all their clouds–their sorrows and cultivating a hopeful submission wear the lining on the outside.
