Funeral services for John Wesley Vines, 83, of 207 Avenue A, will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. today in Avenue Baptist Church. The Rev. R.V. Fields, pastor of Grace Gospel Church, and the Rev. Ronald Harpster, Avenue Baptist pastor, will officiate.

Burial will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Park, directed by Gililland Funeral Home.

Mr. Vines, a resident of Deaf Smith County since 1943, died on his 83rd birthday in a hospital here Tuesday, after a long illness. He was a native of Erath County, born April 1, 1886. He married Eva Lee Barker Dec. 24, 1911, in Comanche.

They came to this county from Castro County. Mr. Vines was a member of Avenue Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. James Martin and Mrs. B.H. Poarch of Hereford and Mrs. Nadine Jones of Stamford; four sons, James W. Vines and Doyle Vines of Hereford, Walter Vines of Chanute Air Force Base, Ill., and Wilson Vines of Shattuck, Okla.; a sister, a brother, 24 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
