Orville Martin Schmidt of Beatrice formerly of Deshler, NE the son of Friedrich and Helene (Krenke) Schmidt was born July 24, 1923 in Hebron, NE. He departed this life Saturday April 6, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society in Beatrice, NE at the age of 89 years.
Orville grew up in the Friedensau area attending Trinity Lutheran School. After school Orville helped on the farm until he was drafted into the United States Navy January 22, 1945 until honorably discharged June 29, 1946.
Orville married Claudine Hillman June 5, 1949 at Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler, NE. Orville was a past member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Deshler, NE and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Beatrice.
He loved the soil and worked hard to farm and appreciate the gift God gave him. He also worked 20 years at Reinke Manufacturing in Deshler, NE.
Orville enjoyed card games, woodworking, making candy, gardening, fishing, making quilts for the missions, most of all spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; Raymond and wife Georgia, Leonard, and Walter and wife Lessie, brothers-in-law; Ray Lassen, Laurn Schleif and Jack Drews, and sister Ella Baden and husband Chris.
He is survived by his wife Claudine of Beatrice, NE, one son Darrel and wife Gail of Grand Island, NE, two daughters, Iris Hintz and husband Harlan of Beatrice, NE and Karen Powell and husband Ron of Lincoln, NE, brothers Marvin and wife Helen of Deshler, NE, Fred of Hebron, NE, Arnold and wife Ruth of Union, MO, sisters; Florence Lassen of Twin Falls, ID, Velma Schleif of Napa, ID, Frances Drews of Geneseo, IL, grandchildren; Amy Evans and husband Ken of Westminister, CO, Ryan Schmidt and fiance Ashley Nelson of Lincoln, NE, Catrina Schaefer and husband Brant of Beatrice, NE, Casper Hintz of Highland Ranch, CO, Zach Powell and Josh Powell both of Lincoln, NE, three great-grandchildren, Kingston Schmidt, Rayna Schaefer and Isiah Ellison-Evans, nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial service will be held Wednesday April 10, 2013 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Deshler, NE at 2:00 pm. No visitation cremation.
