She faced cancer and death the way she faced life, head-on, and she did it her way. Betty-Lou was unique. She never realized how much she meant to so many. Betty-Lou graduated from Skowhegan High School in the class of 1953. In 1954 she enlisted in the U. S. Army, Women's Army Corps, and served until 1960. Among her duty stations were Fort McClellan, Ala., Fort Gordon, Ga., Signal Service School in Fort Meyer, Va., Pentagon Duty in Heidelberg, Germany, Fifth Army Headquarters in Chicago and Munich. She was a member of American Legion Post No. 422, Berwyn, Ill. Betty-Lou settled in Illinois where she resided from 1960-1999. She was employed in the insurance field until her retirement from the Office of Special Duty Receiver, Chicago. She returned to Maine to spend time with her beloved mother and siblings.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a brother, Harold C. Lewis; sisters, Jeannette (Gould-Lewis) Merrill and Angelina (Lewis) Savage; nephews, Arthur L. Savage and Jeffery Merrill; great-nephew, Michael Lewis; and her life long friends and extended family, Adelaide R. Rubin and Mary C. Davis. Betty-Lou is survived by three brothers, Hubert R. Lewis Sr. and wife, Ethel, of Abbot, Ralph "Eddie" Lewis of Dover-Foxcroft and Clarence C. Lewis and wife, Theresa, of Manchester, Conn.; sister, Charlene (Lewis) and husband, W. H. "Randy" Randall, of Bangor; many nieces and nephews; including godson, Gary L. Lewis; great-nieces and great-nephews; great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; and cousins and friends; including special friends, Lynne, Bud, Anna and Richard.
Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. (Bangor Daily News 4/8/2013)
