Mrs. H. Van Eizenga succumbs after stroke Saturday

Last rites were held at the American Reformed church Tuesday morning for Mrs. Hessel Van Eizenga, 65, an Orange City resident for over 30 years.

Mrs. Van Eizenga died Saturday evening, January 3, at Grossmann hospital, after suffering a stroke at the American church earlier that day, where she was helping prepare lunch for a bereaved family. She had not been in the best of health for some time, but had not been bedridden or noticeably ill.

Rev. Alvin Hook conducted the final services, for which Eugene Mulder presented vocal music. Pallbearers were Peter Goslinga, Henry Kleinhesselink, Wilbur Prins, Frank Pas, Gerrit N, Roghair and C. Vande Steeg. Interment was made at the Orange City cemetery with Van Etten's handling the arrangements.

Mrs. Van Eizenga was born Ida May, daughter of Wm. C. and Clara May, at Pawnee, Nebr., June 17, 1893. Most of her youth was spent at Lebanon, Kans., to which community the family moved when she was a young girl. She came to Orange City in January 1926, following her brother, John, who was in the restaurant business here; and was employed in the offices of the Sioux Abstract company.

Her marriage to Hessel Van Eizenga occurred October 3, 1931, at Brookings, S.Dak. The couple, who celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary this past fall, had one son, Jacob, who, along with Mr. Van Eizenga, survives.

Other near relatives surviving are a brother, Floyd May, of Chicago, who was here for services Tuesday; a sister-in-law, Mrs. John May of Bellflower, Calif.; a nephew, Bill May of Spirit Lake, also here for the funeral.

A regular attendant at the American Reformed church in Orange City, Mrs. Van Eizenga also was an active member of Eastern Star.
