John Harvey Deacon
John Harvey Deacon, 86, of Lynchburg, died Sunday, May 1, 2005, at Lynchburg General Hospital. Twice married, he was the husband of the late Mildred Spiggle Deacon and the late Ruby Baldwin Deacon.
Born May 5, 1918, in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Jessie George Deacon Sr. and the late Maud Stinnett Deacon. He was retired from Craddock & Terry Shoe Corp. and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. John was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his wives and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
John is survived by two daughters, Pat Elder and her husband, Jerry and Judy Brooks; one son, J.K. Deacon and his wife, Pat, all of Lynchburg; five step-children, Linda Lester and her husband, Joe, also of Lynchburg, Laura Hogan and her husband, Dave of Evington, Rose Tillman and her husband, John of Lynchburg, J.R. Webber and Larry Webber and his wife, Becky, both of Evington; 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service with military honors by American Legion Post 16 will be conducted at noon Tuesday, May 3, 2005, in Spring Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Whitten Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Timberlake Chapel.
