Graveside service for Victor Walter Alvey, 78, will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at San Jacinto Valley Cemetery. Friends may call from noon until 1 p.m. Monday at Westley Funeral Home in San Jacinto. He died Thursday at his home. The cause of death is pending a doctor's report. Mr. Alvey, who was born in Springfield, Mo., lived in Hemet for 13 years. He was an engineer for 36 years, lastly working for an aircraft design company. He was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, Lee De Forrest Radio Club and The Concerned Seniors, all of Hemet. He taught ham radio classes since 1981. He enjoyed ham radios, fishing, photography, working on his computer, building doll houses and baking. He is survived by his wife, Alice; a daughter, Patricia Martin of Hemet; two sons, Donald P. of Hemet and V. Warren of Thousand Trails; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Geraldine Nelson of Santa Paula; and two brothers, Paul of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Ted of Sioux City, Iowa.

Victor W. Alvey Jr., 78, of Hemet, Calif., formerly of Sioux City, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 1997. Catholic services and burial were held in San Jacinto, Calif. Mr. Alvey was born in Springfield, Mo., the son of Victor W. and Mary (Griesemer) Alvey. He moved to Sioux City at an early age. He attended Sioux City schools and graduated from Central High School and Morningside College, with a degree in aeronautical engineering. He moved to Baltimore, Md. in 1941, and married Alice Hockett of Sioux City. He was employed with Glenn L. Martin Aircraft Company during World War II. He received his master's degree in aeronautics from New York University. After the war, he moved to Northridge, Calif. and became associated with North American Aviation and Astec Engineering. He was in charge of the wing design section, designing structurals of the X-15 Rocket Plane, the B-70 Bomber, Boeing 757 and 767, and spent two years in Paris, France, on the design of the British French Concord. He enjoyed amatuer radio, where he was an instructor and counselor for new license applicants, model railroads and woodworking. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Victor Warren and his wife Yvonne of Thousand Oaks, Calif. and Donald of Hemet, Calif.; a daughter, Patricia of Hemet; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, John "Ted" and his wife Evelyn of Sioux City and Rev. J. Paul of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and a sister and her husband, Geraldine and Harvey Nelson of Santa Paula, Calif.
