ALLERTON – Sept. 12. – Dr. Grant Brown died at his home at 7:45 o'clock Thursday morning after a short illness. The funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon in the Presbyterian church with burial in Sarah Field's cemetery.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Alice Brown, and four children, Herman brown, Danville, Everett Brown, Allerton; Mrs. Barnn, Coldwater, and Mrs. Frank Warters, Sidney, and three sisters and two brothers.

Dr. Brown was born in 1868 and came to Allerton when he was about five years old. He has been engaged in veterinary practice here for 40 years.

This is the third death in the Brown family since the first of the year, two of his sisters having preceded him.

Grant Brown, V. S.

Allerton Times January 4, 1907 page 1

Was born in Edgar county May 20, 1868. Moved here from there to the Ralston farm, now occupied by Frank Wood when he was two years old. After a short time at this place they moved to the farm now owned by D. Martinie, occupied by F. E. Black. In 1872 his father purchased the farm now owned by J. W. George.

Mr. Brown's father was the first veterinary surgeon in this country and Grant decided to make that profession his life work, receiving instructions from his father. Soon after this village was laid out, he entered into the drug business in connection with his veterinary work coming back and forth from his father's farm where he boarded. His drug store occupied the building in which W. B. Lackleman has his restaurant. He moved his store to its present location in January, 1901. His father, at the time of his death, was the oldest practicing veterinarian in this part of the state. Grant has been practicing here for the past twenty years and has an enviable practice and a reputation second to none in the state.

He was married to Miss Alice Haun Nov. 27, 1890 and they began housekeeping in this village.
