Albert Haener, 85, a longtime Camas Prairie businessman, died Monday at Syringa General Hospital at Grangeville after a brief illness.

He founded Haener Lumber Co with his son, Arley. Haener also owned and operated the Smoke Shop Cafe at Grangeville and the Haener Freight Co. He and his brother, Emil owned and operated a hardware store at Ferdinand earlier. He retired in 1954.

Haener was born April 2, 1890 at Florence, KS to Joseph & Catherine Haener. He moved with his family to Mt Angel, OR in 1895. They later moved to Greencreek where his parents homesteaded. He attended the Greencreek school.

He married Amelia Goeckner Sept 22, 1914 at Ferdinand. They lived in Oregon for a short time and returned to Grangeville in 1920. Haener was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and Elks Lodge at Grangeville.

Haener is survived by his widow and three sons, Arley, Earl and Albert, three daughters, Delphine May, Nell Haener and Shirley Chilquist; two brothers, Henry or Grangeville and Anton of Ferdinand, 20 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
