On Friday, March 29, 2013, at the Menorah Medical Center, Katherine answered the call of the trumpet at 8:30 p.m.
Both parents, husband and seven siblings all preceded her in death.
Katherine (Kat) as she was called was reared in the Leeds area in Kansas City and attended Dunbar Elementary, R.T. Coles and Lincoln High School.
She married Obie Nicholson of Macon, Mississippi in 1946 after he completed his tour of duty in the US Army. They were blessed with six children.
On April 18, 1958, Obie died in a boating accident and in 1961 she united in marriage to Harold Harmon. This marriage was dissolved in 1972 with no children.
Katherine was a member of the COGIC from an early age and in later years joined the Macedonia Baptist Church, Kansas City, Missouri under the leadership of Pastor John Brooks. She also was employed at Rival Manufacturing for many years and retired after twenty years as a Cook with the Kansas City Board of Education. Katherine had resided at the Carondelet Manor Assisted Living since February of 2012 after suffering a seizure that left her with failing health.
Katherine Doris Harmon leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted daughter Julia Allen and a special son-in-law Paul Allen; a daughter, Roseline Nicholson; sons: Obie Nicholson (Sandra), Bill Nicholson, Clifford Nicholson, Oliver Nicholson all of Kansas City, Missouri, and Victor Thomas of Pendleton, Indiana; sister, Gladys Thomas (Victor) of South Bend, Indiana; brothers John Dulley and Thomas Dulley of Kansas City, Missouri; grandchildren: Shawna Allen, Ashley Allen, Cassandra Foster, Reagan Rambo, Bridget Harris, Bryant Alexander, Anthony Nicholson, Andre Nicholson, Rashawn Nicholson, Dionne Drummond, Obie Austin, and Robert Austin; fourteen great-grandchildren; special nieces, Otha Wheeler of Raytown, Missouri and Loretta Carney of Memphis, Tennessee; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services for Katherine Doris Harmon were held on Thursday, April 4, 2:00 p.m. at The Lawrence A. Jones and Sons Funeral Chapel.
Interment, Brooking Cemetery.
