Susie was born in Tonkawa, Oklahoma to J. Thomas and A. Gertrude Weaver Evans. She had 8 siblings, 5 sisters and 3 brothers.

The family moved to Idaho in about 1910, where Susie grew up. On September 26, 1927, she married Joe W. Powers. They lived most of their lives in Boise, Idaho, except for a few years in Wyoming. They had two daughters, Helen Lorraine and Nancy Joy.

Susie loved people! If you dropped by for a visit, she'd insist on having you stay for a meal or at least dessert. She kept a pantry of home canned foods, she loved animals and children, and she always made you feel at home. Susie had a collection of dolls, which she treasured. She crocheted and many who knew her have a treasured afghan, blanket, or doily Susie made for them. She loved, and was well loved by all who knew her.
