GREEN, FREDA LOUISE PENNELL, 87, passed away March 29, 2013.

She was born November 13, 1925 in Lexington, KY, to Ray and Amelia Crombie Pennell. She moved to Louisville as a child.

During World War II she worked at Curtis Wright Aircraft putting bolts into aircraft wings due to her petite size. She also volunteered at the U.S.O. Club where she met a Canadian soldier (Eddie) helping train American soldiers at Fort Knox. After he shipped off to Belgium they continued to communicate and were married March 30, 1945. She followed him to Canada where two of her children were born. Disliking the Canadian winters, they moved back to Louisville in 1949 and moved to the South End of Louisville. Over the years she volunteered with The American Red Cross and Sts. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital.

She joins her husband of over 50 years, (James Edward); and her eldest son, (Doug) who passed away in October, 2012.

She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Whitworth with whom she lived; sons, Frank (Debbie) and Glen; daughter-in- law, Jeri Green; grandchildren, Scott and Melissa Whitworth, Audra and Erin Green, Dawn Barnett (Chris) and great-grandchildren Max and Holland Barnett.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 12 p.m. at Louisville Memorial Gardens, 4400 Dixie Highway, Louisville, KY. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. and Wednesday at 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
