Obituary 1949
from local newspaper;
Mrs. Marion Dalton passed away at the Memorial Hospital in Miller on December 16, 1949 after a lingering illness of several months duration.
Hattie Eliza, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Prather, was born at Nancy, Kentucky, in Pulaskey County, on December 7, 1886. Her girlhood days were spent at Nancy where she received her schooling.
She was united in marriage to Marion Dalton on Oct. 3, 1909 They first made their home at LeRoy, Illinois, three years later they moved to Aberdeen, Idaho, and after seven years there they came to Holabird, S. D. where they lived until 1941 at which time they moved to a farm north west of Highmore.
Mrs. Dalton had been under doctor's care and in hospitals most of the time since April of 1948 at first because of a broken leg which failed to set and for which surgery and bone grafting were finally necessary. Before this operation had fully repaired her health began to fail and she was never able to walk again. She returned to the hospital in Miller on November 17 and underwent an operation which revealed that her system was full of cancer and there was no hope of her recovery and several weeks later she departed this life at the age of sixty-three years, nine days. An infant son, Elmer Lloyd, preceded her in death in 1925.

Remaining to mourn her death are her husband, five sons Hilbert S., Harley F., Floyd G. and Howard W. of Highmore and Louis G. of St. Louis, Missouri, four daughters, Mrs. Stanley (Myrtle) Peterson, Mrs. Wm. (Alla) Rittel, Mrs. Kenneth (Ollie) Alumbaugh of Highmore, and Mrs. (Beulah) Webb of Winterset, Iowa, twenty grandchildren and an aged brother Luther Prather of Shepola, Kentucky. Mrs. Dalton devoted herself unreservedly to her home and family. She was a good neighbor, always ready to lend a helping hand wherever there was need. She had accepted Christ as her Saviour and had received Christian baptism and had declared her purpose, upon recovery come a member of the Methodist Church at Highmore. Remembering her faithfulness to her family, her deeds of kindness, and her devotion to God, we say with the poet,
She Is Just Away.
She would not want the ones she loves to grieve for her today;
We must not say that she is dead, for she is just away,
Away upon a journey,
To a land that's bright and fair
And though we will miss her here.
