Young Grimes died late Wednesday while attempting to rescue two other men from a well near Mantachie.
He was employed by Cook, Coggins, Kelly and Cook, a Tupelo engineering firm. Grimes had served three years in the Marine Corps and was a Vietnam veteran. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Linda Grimes, and his parents Mr. and Mrs. Manard Grimes, all of Mantachie; a brother George Grimes of Fulton; and his grandmothers, Mrs. Jimmie Grimes and Mrs. Emma McFerrin, both of Mantachie. Pallbearers were Junior Mills, Sammy Nabors, Terry Jones,, Mackey Grimes, John Pollock, Kenneth Pollock, Johnny Walton and Billy McFerrin.
