Maurice V. Graves, age 86, a resident of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, April 20, 2008 at Norris Care and Rehab Center.

Mr. Graves was born April 26, 1921 in Fyffe, Alabama. He served his country in the United States Army Air Corp during WWII. He later served in the United States Air Force during Korea and Vietnam retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.

He held three collegiate degrees and believed strongly in education. He first graduated from Cornell University with a major in Hotel Management, second he graduated from the Jones College of Law, third, he graduated from the Air War College, and served as a certified internal auditor for NASA and the Army Corp of Engineers.

His hobbies included playing music and raising birds.

Mr. Graves was preceded in death by his wife, Dixie Duncan Graves, by a son; Maurice V. Graves Jr., and by his parents; William Joshua Graves and Cora Teague Graves.

He is survived by a son; Bill Graves of Clinton, by three grandchildren; Jenna Hovater and husband Jason of Heiskell, Dylan A. Graves and Dane A. Graves of Alcoa.

The family will receive friends Thursday, April 24, 2008 between the hours of 1:00 and 2:00 pm at Sharp Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 2:00 pm in the funeral Home chapel. Burial and Graveside services will follow at the Batley Cemetery. Sharp Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
