ELIZABETHTOWN - Alvin McLane "Mack" Greene, 85, died Wednesday, March 17, at home.

He was born in Flournoy, Alabama, on January 28, 1919, one of two sons of the late Alvin Hobby "A.H." Greene and Annie Hamill McLane.

He moved to Bladen County in 1933 when his father and uncle founded Greene Brothers Lumber Company. Graduating from White Oak High School, he attended the Citadel before serving in World War II. A member of the meritorious 904th Signal Company of the 8th Air Force, he was stationed in England during the war. Upon returning from service, he undertook management of Bladen Builders Supply where he worked until his retirement in 1981. A member of Trinity United Methodist Church, he served as treasurer for over 30 years.

A celebration of his life will be conducted Friday, March 19, at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Elizabethtown, with burial immediately following at Elizabethtown City Cemetery. Services will be conducted by the Reverend Donald Warren.

Mr. Greene is survived by his wife, Frances Smith Greene of the home; two sons, Hobby D. Greene and Lee M. Greene; daughters-in-law, Janie and Paula; and five grandchildren, Ann Hamill, Lane, Molly, Jackson and Adam Greene, all of Elizabethtown. He was preceded in death by his only sibling, Julian Casey Greene.

The family will receive friends at the home Thursday, from 6-8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kathryn McLane Greene Scholarship Fund, in care of Trinity United Methodist Church, Post Office Box 759, Elizabethtown, N.C. 28337.
