Dena I Grote, 95, of Aberdeen died Sunday, April 23, 2000 at Bethesda Nursing Home in Aberdeen.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 am Wednesday in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1620 Milwaukee Avenue N.E. The Rev. Allan Schoonover will officiate.

Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park under the direction of Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main Street.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 pm today at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.

Dena Irene Romelfanger was born April 20, 1905, to Frank and Florence (Woodruff) Romelfanger in Rockford, Illinois. They later moved to Roscoe, and then to Aberdeen. She graduated from Aberdeen Central High School.

She married Lester Grote on September 7, 1922, in Aberdeen. Following their marriage, they made their home in Aberdeen, and she worked for Taylor Laundry, Standard Clothing, Martin Clothing, Goldberg's and Buttery's stores. She retired in 1958. They continued to reside in Aberdeen following her retirement. He died April 13, 1976. She moved into the Bethesda Home in 1994.

She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and Women of the Moose Lodge.

She enjoyed playing bridge, sewing, crocheting, camping, fishing, cooking, and baking.

Survivors include three sons, Neil (Beverly) Grote and Percy (Dorothy) Grote, both of Aberdeen, and Harlyn (Joan) Grote of Spokane, Washington; two daughters, Louan Overbust and Alecia "Lisa" (Ron) Bean, both of Aberdeen; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother, one sister, one half-sister, one half-brother, two stepbrothers and one stepsister.

Casket bearers will be her grandsons: Norman Fjelstad, Tim Fjelstad, Wayne Fjelstad, Terry Grote, Mitch Locken, Andy Locken, Clint Fjelstad and Jim Meyers.
