Funeral service for Rebel L. Zeigler, a leader in the South's livestock and meat-packing industry for 35 years, will be held at St. Paul's Cathedral at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Mr. Zeigler, who was 74, died Sunday at his Green Pastures Ranch near Aliceville in Pickens County, Alabama.

His body will lie in state from 4 p.m. today until 1 p.m. Wednesday at Elmwood Chapel. Bishop Joseph A. Durick will officiate at the funeral and Johns Ridout's will handle arrangements. Mr. Zeigler was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Cathedral in El Paso, Texas.

He is survived by his wife, seven sisters and nieces and nephews.

The family requests that any memorials be contributions to the University of Alabama Medical College for the R.L. Zeigler Foundation to be used for arteriosclerosis research.

Born in Greenville in Butler County, Alabama on August 12, 1890, Mr. Zeigler moved to Ensley, Alabama with his family in 1897 and grew up in Birmingham. In 1910 he started his career in the meat processing business with Cudahy Packing Company. A year later, he married Sophie C. Krahenbuhl. On May 23, 1961, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by renewing their marital vows at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Pratt City, Alabama.
