Gwendolyn Killian Arrowood

SALISBURY - Gwendolyn Killian Arrowood, 85, of Salisbury, went to be with our Lord and Savior Monday, March 26, 2012, at The Laurels of Salisbury.

Mrs. Arrowood was born Nov. 16, 1926, in Mount Holly to the late Esley Otto Killian and Ethel Baker Killian. She was a graduate of Mount Holly High School and Salisbury Business College.

Gwen retired in 1994 from Rowan County School Food Service as a bookkeeper at the Central Office after 25 years of service.

She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, where she was in the Joy Club, and a member of United Methodist Women.

She was widowed at the age of 34, and was mom and dad to her four boys. Gwen was a loving mother, granny, and great-granny and will be missed dearly.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Paul Joseph Arrowood, in 1960; brothers Fred, Ernest, Roy, and Charles ("Deaner") Killian; and sisters Edith Littlejohn, Edna Forbes and Frances Patterson.

Those left to cherish memories are her sons, David L. Arrowood and wife Sandy of Cleveland, Allen K. Arrowood and wife Jill of Salisbury, Mark C. Arrowood of Linwood and Paul R. Arrowood; sister Imogene Killian Teeter of Texas; six grandchildren, Aaron Arrowood (Christy), Katie Hurlbut (Chad), Trent Arrowood (Hank), Heather Helms (Marvin), Hunter Arrowood and Cameron Arrowood; two step-grandchildren, Chad Yates (Vanessa) and Garrett Yates (Candace); five great-grandchildren, Austin and Ethan Arrowood, Kendall and Karah Hurlbut and Tyler Helms; and two step-great grandchildren, Joshua and Noah Yates.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, March 30 at Summersett Funeral Home in Salisbury.

Service: 10 a.m. Saturday, March 31 at Bethel United Methodist Church, 2380 Long Ferry Road, Salisbury, NC 28146, conducted by the Rev. Kelly Ottinger and Rev. Mary Louise Sitton. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. at Hillcrest Gardens in Mount Holly.

At other times, the family will gather at the home of David and Sandy Arrowood in Cleveland.

Memorials: May be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, 2380 Long Ferry Road, Salisbury, NC 28146.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Laurels of Salisbury for the care they provided to Granny, and to all the friends who have supported them over the past several months.
