Civil War veteran. Grand Army of the Republic.
79th Ohio infantry, Co. H
Enlisted 14 Aug 1862. Discharged 15 June 1865.
"Allen B. Lippincott was born in Warren County, Ohio.
He enlisted as a private in Company H, 79th Regiment, Ohio Infantry on August 14, 1862
at Camp Dennison, Waynesville, Ohio. He was 5’9” and 21 years old and got a $25 bounty.
From October of 1862 he was detailed to work in the military hospital at Frankfort,
Kentucky. He mustered out of the service on June of 1865 at Louisville, Kentucky. He
had contracted rubeala and had worked as a ward master in Park Barracks.
He married Susan T. Raymond on December 25, 1865 at Sherman, Heron Co, Ohio. They had
at least one son, John R. Lippincott, born February 22, 1885. Allen worked as a farmer
and perhaps lived in Heron Co, Ohio and Ionia Co, Michigan (the town Sebewa was referred
to).
Allen died on December 1, 1898. In her widow’s claim, Susan indicated she was 54 years
old (so she may have been born in ’44 and about 21 when she married in ’65). At the time
of his death, she had 50 acres which were mortgaged. Their son John got a pension of $2
a month until February of 1901 (his 16th birthday). Susan remarried an unknown on
January 16, 1902.
