Began schooling in Lauderdale Consolidated School in 1914 & graduated in 1926. Outstanding member of the 4-H Club, lettered in track, basketball & baseball, competed in 2 state track meets & placed. After high school graduation, attended Mississippi A & M (MSU) where he received a Bachelor's in Vocational Agriculture in 1930. Taught Vocational Agriculture at Utica High School from 1930-35, where he met Laura Dudley. Worked as assistant to the county agent of Pearl River, Stone & Hancock Counties. Taught Vocational Agriculture in Morgan City, Mississippi. Returned to Utica High in 1938 & taught there until 1944 when he was appointed by Gov. Thomas L. Bailey as Superintendent of the Mississippi School for the Deaf under a provision enacted by the 1944 Legislature. wrote a book, "History of the Deaf in Mississippi, 1854-1974"
