Obituary Bismarck Tribune (Sep 08, 2001)
BEULAH -- Edward S. Morman, 88, Beulah, died Sept. 8, 2001, in the Hazen hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Beulah, with the Revs. Charles Zins and David Morman, and the Deacon Eugene Morman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. today at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah. A rosary will be said at 7:45 tonight at the church, with a vigil to follow.

Edward "Ed" Morman was born on a farm, June 7, 1913, in the Haymarsh community, northeast of Hebron. He was a son of Charles and Amelia (Wehri) Morman, and the sixth child of 12 children. He is one of eight brothers and four sisters.

After childhood, Ed worked as a farm hand and ranch worker until he met Helen Ehlers, a Haymarsh teacher. They were married on Aug. 17, 1935, and they moved to Beulah. In 1938, Ed gained employment at North Dakota Power and Light Plant (now MDU). He began as an ashman and worked himself up to chief engineer. He retired after 40 years.

Ed was always active in the civic and church life in the community. After retirement, he was with the ambulance service for 14 years, and drove the West River Transportation bus for eight years. Ed served 26 years on the Beulah Park Board, was a member of Chamber of Commerce, served as a member of the Beulah Fire Department for 30 years until given honorary membership. He also was a member of Mercer County Historical Society for 10 years, a charter member of the Eagles, and a long time member of the Lions, but the Beulah Rodeo always captured his energy. Ed was a committed man to the community of Beulah. Ed was also active in the St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he served as treasurer for the Knights of Columbus and was a member of the church choir and served as church trustee.

During his retirement, Ed enlarged his garage to include a shop for his hobby of woodworking. Ed also enjoyed his big screen TV as he watched basketball and baseball, sitting in his easy chair viewing his birds and flowers.

Ed is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Dorothy Morman, Owatonna, Minn., David and Yvonne Morman, Franklin, Minn., and Dale and Jo Morman, Anchorage, Alaska; one daughter and son-in-law, Daphne and Ron Sturtz, Roseburg, Ore.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Clara Elder, Beulah, and Hedwig Karlin, Kalispell, Mont.; and one sister-in-law, Leona Morman, Glen Ullin.
