BLOUNTVILLE – Ralph Zane Sutherland, 71, went to be with the Lord late Friday,
June 4, 2004, at his residence.

He was born on March 8, 1933, in Clinchfield, Va., and born again on Dec. 24,
1960. He was pastor of Valley View Baptist Church for over 29 years. He was
preceded in death by his parents, Otis C. Sutherland and Hester Chaffin
Sutherland, and four brothers, Alton Sutherland, Glenn Grizzle, Thurman
Sutherland and Ray Sutherland.

Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Bernice Leonard Sutherland of the home;
daughters, Kim Walden and husband Glenn, Karen Adams and husband Mike and Amy
Vanhoy and husband Jason, all of Blountville; grandchildren, Adam, Andrew and
Kaitlyn Walden, Nicholas, Brandon and Seth Adams and Elizabeth, Jason and
Catherine Vanhoy; sisters, Theda Click and husband Sam, Faye Smith and Opal
Dykes, all of Kingsport; brothers, A.K. "Bud" Sutherland and wife Dot, Lebanon,
and Marvin Sutherland and wife Pat, Kingsport; a good friend, Lester Harr, and
care givers, Cathy Montgomery, Donna Mooney and Mary Duncan. Also, a host of
nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are Monday, June 7, 2004, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church
(Island Road). Friends may also call any time at the residence on Island Road.
Funeral services will be conducted at the church on Monday, June 7, 2004, at 7
p.m., with Rev. Edd Davis, Rev. Lee Clark, Rev. Scott Sutherland and Rev. Eddie
Zimmerman officiating. Graveside services will be Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at 1
p.m. at East Lawn Memorial Park. Those wishing to attend the graveside service
are asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:55 p.m. Pallbearers will be Page Adams,
Kevin Whiteman, Michael Whiteman, Tony Leonard, Glenn Walden, Mike Adams and
Jason Vanhoy. Honorary pallbearers will be all the preacher friends and men of
Valley View Baptist Church. Condolences may be sent to the family via e-mail at

Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport, is serving the family of Mr.
Sutherland.
