Genola Josephine Westervelt
PITTSBURG — Genola Josephine Westervelt, 95 of Pittsburg died at 8:10 p.m. Sunday March 24, 2013 at the Medicalodge Nursing Home in Frontenac.
She was born May 20, 1917 in Greeley, Colorado the daughter of Tom and Flora Richardson.
Genola grew up in Pittsburg, attended Forest Park grade school, then Roosevelt Junior High, and 2 years at PHS until moving to McCune where she graduated from the McCune Rural High School in 1936.
She married Maurice Westervelt December 24, 1937; he preceded her in death on May 8, 2004.
Genola was a homemaker. She and her husband Maurice farmed south of McCune until purchasing the present farm west of Pittsburg in 1954.
Survivors include 2 sons Lennie Westervelt and wife Gloria of rural Cherokee, Alvin Westervelt of Pittsburg and 2 Grandchildren Derek and Tianne.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant daughter, 2 sisters and a brother.
Private family graveside services will be later this week in the McKee Cemetery near Hallowell, KS.
Friends may come by the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg to sign the register book Tuesday and Wednesday.
The casket will remain closed at all times.
