Private in Company C 37th Alabama Infantry CSA. Captured at Vicksburg July 4,1863. The following obituary courtesy of the Crenshaw County News- August 17,1911 via Crenshaw Co. Historical Society; Nathan Kirkland aged about 85 years. He leaves surviving two sons, George and John Kirkland, and three daughters, Mrs. Lige Wallace, Mrs. B.F. Daniel and Mrs. John Bradum. Deceased was a member of the Masonic Fraternity and his remains were interred at Camerons Chapel on the day following his death under the auspices of that order, a large concourse of people being present. Deceased had long been a member of the fraternity & was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church. Deceased was a good man and a good citizen and his example to the young is worthy of emulation.
