Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Served during the Civil war a a Sergeant in Company F, 24th Volunteer Wisconsin Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at the Battle of Franklin, Tennessee on November 30, 1864. His citation reads "Gallantry in action; voluntarily assisting in working guns of battery near right of the regiment after nearly every man had left them, the fire of the enemy being hotter at this than at any other point on the line".
