Melvin was the son of Benjamin Merle Beckwith and his wife, Alice E. Crippen Beckwith. Melvin had one older brother, Laurence, and one younger brother, Duane, as well as one younger sister, Virginia.
Melvin married Betty Jean Goodrode on the 15 of Aug, 1943. They had one son in April of 1944.
Melvin lost his life on the beaches of Normandy France on that dreadful day of 14 Aug. 1944.
