Mrs. Pearl Spain, 84, of 217 S. Cullen Strett, Rensslaer, passed away at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday in Jasper County Hospital following an illness of one month.
Born in Monticello on March 9, 1888, she was a daughter of Michael and Mary Ann (Fuller) Criswell. She was married on January 17, 1912, in Monticello to Charles Freemont Spain. He passed away May 29, 1964.
Educated in Monticello schools, she was a resident of the Rensselaer area for 60 years.
Mrs. Spain was a member of the First Christian Church, Naomi Church Circle, Eastern Star No. 41, Remington Chapter of White Shrine, Literary Club, Priscilla Sew Club and Harmony Homemaker Home Ec. Club. She was a Past Matron of Eastern Star.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Elwood (Esther) Ahlgrim and Mrs. John (Norman Ruth) Poehl, both of Michigan City, amd Mrs. Madelyn Stevens of Chicago; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Lloyd Hinshaw and Mrs. Robert Lee, both of Michigan City; and one brother, Henry Criswell, of Riverside, California. She was preceded in death by three brothers.
Funeral services will be held from Jackson Funeral Chapel at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Interment will follow in Weston Cemetery, Eastern Star memorial services will be conducted from the chapel at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Friends may call at the chapel after 2:00 p.m. Friday.
