WICHITA -- Louis E. Abbott, 94, retired yard master for the Santa Fe Railroad, died Friday (April 1, 2005) at Wichita Specialty Hospital in Wichita.


He was born Oct. 10, 1910, to Herbert and Fannie (Phelps) Abbott in Olathe. They preceded him in death. He married Florence Lantis Oct. 16, 1937. She preceded him in death April 18, 1997.

He lived in Newton for more than 80 years, moving to Wichita in 1996 until his death. He was a graduate of Newton High School with the Class of 1927. He had many interests and hobbies including gardening, fishing, camping and general repair. He loved, and was loved by, his family.

Survivors include: three daughters, Valerie Kirchmer and husband Larry of Wichita, Connie Huffman and husband Bill of Merced, Calif., and Gail Bodholdt of Carrolton, Texas; a son, Jeffery L. Abbott and wife Susie of Fort Worth, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by a brother, Warren Abbott.

Graveside service will be 4 p.m. today at Restlawn Gardens of Memory with the Rev. Cynthia Lippert of Unity Church of Wichita officiating.
