A native of Cherokee County, husband of Sally (Bratton) Peeler; and son of the late Jasper Smith Peeler (1887–1967) and Maggie Virginia Davis Peeler (1900–1988).
Owner and president of Peeler's Dairy, a member and past president of the Gaffney Kiwanis Club, a Mason, Shriner, former board member of the Salvation Army, a former member of the advisory board of C&S Bank, member of the S.C. Dairy Association, a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran of World War II, and a member of First Baptist Church.
Also survived by sons, Sen. Harvey Peeler, Bill Peeler, and Lt. Gov. Bob Peeler; daughter, Susan Peeler Wood; brother, David Lamar Peeler (1932–2019); sisters, Virginia Aliene Peeler Clary (1922–2017), Margaret Peeler Wilson, and Charlotte Peeler Brown (1939–2017).
Also preceded in death by a sister, Carolene Peeler (1922–1922); and brothers, Loyd Davis Peeler (1924–2001) and Clyde Boone Peeler (1927–1997).
Visitation was from 6:00-8:00 pm, Monday, October 15, 2001, at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home.
Services were held at 4:00 pm, Tuesday, October 16, 2001, at First Baptist Church of Gaffney conducted by the Revs. Joel Sellers and Raymond Crow; burial in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
