Bessie V. Houck, age 92, of Mangum, passed away Friday afternoon, March 22, 2013, at Plantation Village Care Center, in Altus.

Mrs. Houck was born on May 15, 1920, in Antlers, Oklahoma to Chester W., Sr. and Ludie (Nabors) Lively. Moving to Greer County, in the Jester Community, in 1929, she graduated from Eastview School in 1938. On September 3, 1938, she married the love of her life, Herman Houck, and they spent the next sixty years together before his death on October 5, 1998. They began farming in the Jester Community and in 1954, they moved to Iowa, for a year, to raise registered shorthorn cattle. In 1955, the family moved back to Mangum and in 1956, they moved to the family farm east of Mangum where Bessie lived until her health began to fail. A long-time, faithful member of the Church of Christ, Bessie enjoyed quilting, gardening, selling Tupperware, working in her yard and with her flowers, but most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Herman Lively, Maynard Lively, Ray Lively and C.W. "Junior" Lively; one grandson, Gary Don Houck and a great granddaughter, Megan Burns, she is survived by four children, Gary Houck and wife Loufine of Mangum, LaWana Weaver and husband Dale of Smithville, Texas, Janice Byers and husband Jim of Mesquite, Texas and Marion Houck of Mangum; twelve grandchildren, Sherman Houck, Jennifer Slaton and husband Steve, Eric Houck and wife Tiffany, Kimberly Silman and husband Rick, Keith Nelson and wife Dee Ann, Christy Buchanan and wife Sue, Terri Tate, Billy Walters, Brandi Burns and Charlie, Tara Ishmael and husband Jerry, Cecil Adame and wife Jennifer and Domingo Adame; eighteen great grandchildren; fourteen great-great grandchildren along with many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Bessie Houck will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at the Mangum Church of Christ with Eddie Beard, Ken Hamilton and Todd McRay officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.

The family will greet friends at Greer Funeral Home on Monday evening from 6 until 7 p.m.
