Son of Jonathan & Nancy Rice Lewis Kidder. Born in Massachusetts, Elmer moved with his family to Illinois. He married Sarah Elvira Marble in McHenry county, IL on 06 May 1856. There they had four children, Flora Kidder, Edna Rachel Kidder, Willis Elmer Kidder, & Sylvia Elvira Kidder. In the 1870's they moved to Bedford, Taylor county, Iowa and lived on Orchard St. In 1889, they moved to "the country" settling in Clayton twp, Taylor County, Iowa. By 1909, they had moved to North Dakota and had settled in Merricourt township of Dickey county.

"Mr Elmer Kidder was born in Athol, Mass., November 23, 1835, and died May 24, 1914, of heart complications, aged 78 years, 6 months and one day. At the age of nine years he moved from Massachusetts to Illinois with his parents, and at the age of 20 years, he was married to Elvira Marble, May 6th, 1856. To this union four children were born, one son and three daughters, all of whom are living: Mrs. J. E. Blackburn, of Quincy, Ill., Mrs. L. P. Ormsby of Edgeley, ND., Mr. W. E. Kidder of Merricourt, ND., and Mrs. R. S. McKee of Manila, Iowa. In 1875 he moved from Illinois to Iowa from there to North Dakota in 1907, where he lived with his son until his death. He, with his wife, united with the Congregational church in early life. On May 6th he with his wife celebrated his 58th wedding anniversary. An aged wife and four children mourn his death."
