Sarah Jane Metcalf Lisenbee (1839-1926) was the daughter of Gabriel John Metcalf (1810-1840) & Francis Fannie Jones Metcalf (1798-1884). She was the wife of Robert Ervin "Bob" Lisenbee (1837-1926). Her husband's sister, Vianna Lisenbee, married her brother, John Metcalf Sr. (both are buried at Metcalf - Bruce Cemetery). John Metcalf Sr. & Robert Ervin "Bob" Lisenbee joined the Union Army during the Civil War. Jane & Vianna stayed together while their husbands were off fighting. It is said that Robert Lisenbee gave Petersburg, Madison County it's name after the war he said it reminded him of the area around Petersburg, Virginia where they had been during the war. The name stuck. One of John Metcalf Sr. brothers fought for the Confederacy. This caused a split in the family that did not heal for many years. The Lisenbees were pro-Union.
