Mrs Alexander, Florence, Dies

Florence, July 2 [1953] --Mrs Ximena Whitton Alexander, 85, widow of Tilden Alexander, died at 2 o'clock this afternoon here at the home of her daughter, Mrs Wayne (Lillian Long) Howle, after an illness of several years.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by the Waters Funeral Home.

Mrs Alexander, the former Miss Ximena Whitton of Virginia, was born December 23, 1867, a daughter of the late Thomas J and Eudora Harris Whitton, both of Virginia. She attended Chester Female Institute of Chester, Va.

Mrs Alexander lived in Florence 59 years, having moved from Sumter in 1894. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, a past president of the Alathean Sunday School Class, a member of the Women's Missionary Union, and organized the Carrie Lake Circle of the WMCU of the First Baptist Church.

Mrs Alexander was first married to Horatio Darr Long, who died in 1901. Survivors from this marriage include one daughter, Mrs Lillian Long Howle, and one son, Clarence E Long, both of Florence.

Her second marriage in 1905 was to Tilden Alexander, who died in 1942. From this marriage one son survives, Willard L Alexander of Detroit, Michigan. Other survivors include one sister, Mrs C Y Speed of Florence, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
