William M."Sam" McWhorter, 68, of Point Pleasant, WV., entered the nearer presence of God on March 22, 2013, at Pleasant Valley Nursing & Rehab Center.

Born in Huntington, WV., he was a son of the late Carl M. McWhorter, Sr., and Marjorie Maize.

Sam was a graduate of Marshall Laboratory School in 1962, and a graduate of Marshall University in 1966 with a teaching degree in English and Social Studies. An outstanding educator in Mason County Schools, serving as a teacher of English and Social Studies as well as a high school principal at Wahama and Hannan.
