Amanda Breech was the eighth child of Jacob and Rebecca Leiby Breech. After her father died in the Civil War (Union soldier), she was placed in different Children's Homes. On November 21, 1866, she was placed in the Home for Friendless Children, In Wilkes Barre, PA. On September 21, 1869 she was transferred to the Mount Joy Home. She was discharged on October 29, 1875 , her sixteenth birthday. She later attended the Bloomsburg Normal School.
She died at the age of 22 years, 3 months and 1 day.
