Helen Monson, 93, of Bemidji, MN, died Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at the Havenwood Care Center in Bemidji after a two year battle with cancer.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 am, Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji with Father Don Braukmann officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7:00pm on Friday, March 22, 2013 at the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji and one hour prior to the service. Spring Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Bemidji, MN.
She was born on June 21, 1919, in Red Lake, MN, the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth "Daisy" (King) Strand. As a young child her mother remarried and she was adopted and raised by Herman Halverson. She grew up in a logging camp north of Kelliher and attended school through the 8th grade. She married Melvin "Slim" Monson on October 19, 1955. She worked as a waitress and cook in Bemidji restaurants until her family was born. Helen cherished time with her family and was known for her love of children, holiday gatherings, and excellent cooking skills.
She was survived by: Son, Curt (Mary) Monson of Bemidji, Daughter, Judy (Arlen) Rinkenberger of Bemidji, Grandsons, Brian and Joe Rinkenberger, Great-Granddaughter, Mollie Brothers, Phil Strand of Boise, ID, DeWayne Strand of Boise, ID, Sisters, Joy Wright of Aurora, MN, JoAnn Williams of Brooklyn Park, MN, Numerous nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Mary, husband Melvin in 1981, sisters Dorothy Wold, and Theresa Nordrum.
