ALVA CHRISTY
Alva Christy, 76, of 1028 South Madison died at his home at 3:40 pm Saturday.
The son of Abija and Susan Fisk Christy, he was born near Floris on August 30, 1877. He has been a resident of Ottumwa and Wapello County for the last 31 years. His marriage to Laura Belle Stater took place January 5, 1899 at Laddsdale. She survives. He was a member of the Ottumwa Baptist Temple.
Besides his wife he is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Arthur Channel, Mrs. Lester Hull, and Mrs. Sam Anderson all of Ottumwa and Mrs. Rex Ryan of Bloomfield; five sons, Henry, Earl, Orville, Rex, and Raymond Christy all of Ottumwa; eighteen grandchildren including Donald Ryan with the U S Army in Germany; three great grandchildren; on brother Hugh Christy of Moline, Illinois; and one sister Mrs. John Yoder of Newell, South Dakota. He was preceded in death by one son, Barry, in 1951, one daughter in infancy, and nine brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 pm at the Ottumwa Baptist Temple in charge of the Reverand A D Pringle. Burial will be in the Memorial Lawn cemetery. Nephews will be pallbearers. The casket will remain at the Johnson Funeral Chapel until 11:00 am Tuesday when it will be taken to the church.
