William's parents were Benjmain and Elizabeth (Walker) Blomfield. In about 1799 William entered the Royal Navy. In 1806 he was "prest" (some call it "taken the King's Shilling") into Navy service on the ship "Salavdor". On 24 Dec 1808 he was on the ship "Clorinde". The "Clorinde" had been a French frigate that was captured on 30 Nov 1803 and brought into British service as the "HMS Clorinde". 1 Jul 1810 he had been promoted from able Seaman to 2nd Gunner. The "HMS Clorinde" took possesion of Isle of France of the east coast of Africa. The Muster of the "HMS Clorinde" on Apr 1814 shows William aboard. 1816 Muster shows 315 men with William one of them. 13 Jul 1816 William was discharged. 16 Jan 1817 William was awarded a pension of 13L 12S and 0D per annum. He had been in the service at least 18 years. On 25 Nov 1817 he married Henrietta Alden in Pulham St. Mary, Norfolk, England. She was 20 years old and he was 39. Their children were: Anna Maria who in 1844 married Thomas Gower in Starston, Norfolk, Eng.; Elizabeth 26 Aug 1818; Louisa 18 Aug 1819; William 1 Nov 1823; Phyllis abt. 1826; Benjamin 1829/30; George William Lacy 23 Nov 1831 and John 29 Jul 1838. The 1851 census lists William as being 73 years old and working as a farmer; his wife, Henrietta was a housewife; Phyllis, a governess; and George a farmer. Also listed was Caroline, granddaughter age 7 and Walter grandson age 4. William died in Pulman on 22 Dec 1858. Henrietta died on 16 Apr 1862.
