Rev. Neal Gordon was the pastor at Ebenezer Church for almost 30 years. Born in Georgia in 1813, he married Miss Martha J. Harris on November 18, 1841 in Maury County, Tennessee, the marriage was solemnized by the Rev. H. Bryson. He and his wife moved to Kentucky, they celebrate the birth and mourn the passing of their infant daughter, Sarah Jane, just 2 years of age on November 6, 1844. His beloved wife Martha Jane passed away at the young age of 23 on November 8th, 1845, both are buried at Ebenezer. In 1850 Jessamine County census, he is a clergyman for the A.R. Presbyterian Church (Ebenezer), he is 36 years of age and has married the Miss Catherine Smith of Indiana, residing with him in September 1850. They have a newborn daughter Eliza, 3 months old. Also residing with him, is Ro. J. Gordon who is 20 years old and a student. In 1860, Rev. Gordon, he is still the active clergyman of A.R. Presbyterian, his immediate family is wife Catherine M, daughter Eliza C. who is aged 10 yrs old, daughter Martha aged 6yrs and son John who is aged 3 yrs. With the family, appears to be family of his wife, as Elizabeth Smith, aged 60 years born in Scotland is residing in the residence along with James B. Smith who was born in Tennessee a student and is of 20 years of age. Also another family, possibly Catherine's sister, is living with them. Eliza Wallace who is aged 35 years, born Indiana and is a teacher, David L. and James D. Wallace, ages 20 and 18 respectively, born in Tennessee, and both students. In 1870, Rev. Gordon, age 56, is still the active clergyman and his family is expanding, his wife Catherine is 44 years of age, daughter Eliza is 20, Martha is 16, John is 14, and James L. (Logan) is 9 years of age. They have Miss Carrie Greer as a domestic servant living with them to help in the household. In March 1871, Rev. Gordon sadly passes away, living a widow, and several children. He was buried at Ebenezer.
