Freda Irene Newberry, 84, of Waverly, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

She was born April 30, 1920, in Waverly, the daughter of August and Mae Bridges Brown. She married Meryl "Shorty" Newberry on June 20, 1945, in Modesto, and he preceded her in death March 15, 1999.

She is survived by one daughter, Barbara (husband, Gerald) Dossett of Springfield; two granddaughters, Alisha (husband, Torrey) Points and Megin Dossett; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews and cousins She was preceded in death by three brothers, August Brown, Herbert Brown and Walter Brown.

Mrs. Newberry attended Waverly Schools and worked as a secretary until retiring. She was a member of Waverly Christian Church.

Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Waverly Christian Church, with burial at Waverly East Cemetery.
