Charles Arthur Newberry, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. . Newberry was born near Wellington, Kansas, May 19, 1879, and departed this life January 14, 1929 at 1:45 p.m. at his home in Waverly, Illinois, at the age of 49 years, 7 months and 26 days.
He was married to Miss Alma Rogers in October 30, 1901 and to this union 9 children were born: Mrs. Veda Gooden, Lawrence, Mrs. Louise Meiers, Roy, Clara, Donald, Merle, Richard and Albert Lowell who preceded him in death in 1913.
He was converted and united with the Baptist Church in 1900 and was a faithful Christian.
He leaves two brothers, Oliver of Decatur, Frank, of Waverly and two sisters, Mrs. Charles Tosh, of Nilwood and Mrs. Holland Elliott, of Waverly. One brother, James Irvin, preceded in in death in 1901.
Besides these, he leaves a host of friends and relatives to mourn his loss.
He was a kind and loving husband, father, brother and neighbor.
As a member of the Modern Woodman of America he always enjoyed their fellowship.
His neighbors and acquaintances all speak well of "Charlie" Newberry.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 16, at 2 p.m. at the Baptist Church, Rev. C. E. Kirkwood conducting the services. Burial was in Waverly cemetery.
