Oscar Burnett, son of George and Mary Jane McCormick Burnett, was born near Waverly, February 17, 1862, and died at St. John's hospital in Springfield, Thursday, May 10, at 5:50 a.m., at the age of 72 years, 2 months and 23 days. He had been in ill health for several years.
On October 15, 1884, he was married to Nancy A. Adams, , who preceded him in death June 12, 1903.
He is survived by one son, Edward; three brothers, Marshall, Everett, and John Burnett, all of this community; and one sister, Mrs. Emma Calhoun, of Franklin.
Mr. Burnett served as treasurer of Township 14-8 for 48 years, resigning two years ago on account of Ill health.
The remains have been taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Burnett until time for the funeral services, which will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 at Little York church, in charge of the pastor, Rev. TYhos. P. Krumpe. Burial will be in East cemetery.
