Well Known Farmer of This Community Died Tuesday Evening.
Fred Burnett, a life long resident of the Little York neighborhood northwest of Waverly, died at his home Tuesday evening, February 28, at 5:15, following a period of ill health of several years' duration.
Mr. Burnett was born on a farm northwest of town, May 1, 1863, the son of George Washington and Mary McCormick Burnett, and was 69 years of age at the time of his death.
On October 8, 1885 he was united in marriage with Mary Jane Bateman, of near Franklin, and to this union was born one daughter, Olive.
Mr. Burnett was well known throughout the Waverly community, and highly esteemed by his neighbors and a large circle of other friends. He was an extensive farmer and stock raiser.
He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, and daughter, Olive; four brothers, Marshall, Everett, Oscar and John Burnett, all of this community; and one sister, Mrs. Emma Calhoun, of Franklin; besides many other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Annie, who died in girlhood, and Mrs. Lucinda Massie, of Franklin.
Funeral services were held at the Swift Funeral Home, Thursday afternoon at 2:30, in charge of Rev. T. P. Krumpe, pastor of the M. E. Circuit, assisted by Rev. D. H. Abbott, pastor of the First M. E. church.
Burial was in Waverly cemetery.
