John Berry Ennis Durham was born to Berry H Durham and Eliza Howell Durham in Cass County, Texas. After Berry Durham's death in 1848, Eliza moved her family to Shreveport where John worked with her brother, John N Howell. June 3, 1865 he was paroled after serving an indeterminate period of time as a prisoner of war. He returned to Shreveport where he married Sallie Carlton on May 1, 1870 at the home of his Uncle John. Two children were born to this union: John Howell Durham (1874-1889) and Harriet Durham b. 1876. After Sallie's death in 1876, John Durham married Caroline Elizabeth Drew. Carrie E Durham was born in 1880 and died in 1886. Children are presumed buried at Oakland.
